Apostasy

"Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving (is) nothing pure: but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. " Titus 1:15-16

"Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God." Leviticus 19:4

Apostasy · a·pos·ta·sy · a total desertion of or departure from one's religion

"And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." Matthew 21:12-13

"And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers." Luke 11:46

"Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered." Luke 11:52

"Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem." 2Chronicles 36:14

Apostasy- a most unusual word. A word seldom heard and most misunderstood by the average person. We first became aware of the impact of apostasy when we began to examine the church we attended many years ago. We found that our "church" may have been leading us down an eccentric path. While this may sound unusual at first (how could a church do this?), we find we were led to believe that the teachings that were first taught to us were, in reality, the teachings Christ. The truth of the matter is that the churches have created their own man-made rituals, rules, burdens and obligations.

"...for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers." Luke 11:46

If we take time to examine the life of the Lord Jesus, we find that He was most vocal and confrontational when confronted by the "Chief Priests” and "Elders," "Scribes" and "Pharisees." Just who are these people? Were they the average person on the street? Were they a part of the average Jewish community with which the Lord Jesus had dealt with on a daily basis? To the contrary, these people were the religious leaders of the day. Could they be an illustration of the priests, ministers, elders and worship leaders of our day? Let us examine a few of the passages from Holy writ to clarify our statements;

From birth most of us we were introduced to our religious beliefs. We followed the path of our parents to assure us of our salvation. Likewise, for example, if your parents were Catholic, you were raised a Catholic. If you were born a Protestant, then you were raised a Protestant and so forth. You had no voice or ability to make a different choice. You (may have) accepted the teachings of that religious upbringing. During our lifetime, we were allowed of the Lord to be exposed to several religions, from Catholicism, to Baptist, to Pentecostal, to Spiritualism... just to name a few. We feel this exposure to these "man-made" religions allows us to speak to each of them for what they are... burdens to men, made by men, and not of God.

"This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish." James 3:15

Referring back to our passage in Matthew 21:12-13, what is the implication of this passage? Is it any different in our day? As we recall our early religious exposure, we find a similarity between the church of today and the temple in the Lord Jesus' day. Whatever religious community you now brand yourself with, you should see the "temple" in Jesus' day as the "church" today. The "money changers," as perhaps bingo parties, pancake breakfasts, lawn fetes, and car raffles. While these activities in and of themselves are "generally accepted activities of the world" they do not represent to us the activity that the Lord Jesus desires in His church, His house.

"My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." Matthew 21:13

"Mine house shall be called a house of prayer for all people." Isaiah 56:7

"...Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes?" Jeremiah 7:11

In Luke we read:

"...And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers." Luke 11:46

Just who was or is a lawyer? Among the Jews, it was one versed in the laws of Moses, which he expounded in the schools and synagogues (Note again, the connection to the synagogue or "church of our day") A common misunderstanding many Bible students make is to assume the use of a word such as lawyer has the same meaning the use of that word today. We must keep in mind that the Bible is a spiritual book. It is not a material book dealing with our physical needs as many purport. Again in Luke we read:

"...And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, 'Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?'" Luke 10:25

Notice how this passage is dealing with a spiritual situation; not a moral, material or ethical one.

The functions of the "lawyer" and "scribe" are identical. Today we would compare a "lawyer" to a priest or a minister. They study the laws and words of God. Their profession is supposed to be to "administer" and "teach" the masses. But we must examine what the Lord Jesus is saying in this passage. What are these lawyers doing? They continue to place burdens on people. These burdens prohibit men from communion with the Lord. How is this, you might ask? Again, we turn to the religious of our day that profess such teachings as indulgences, penance and sacrifices,

"The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination" Proverbs 21:27

"For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings." Hosea 6:6

"But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God" 1Corinthians 10:20

"But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God" Hebrews 10:12

repetitious prayers (such as the rosary or monk's beads), long prayers, praying to saints, idol worship, statues, use of relics, prayer books, holy water and Mary worship, and accepting Christ as one’s personal savior, just to name just a few, are all an abomination to the Lord. All these actions are in an effort to teach men that they must "work" for their salvation. They must do something in order to be saved. The religious claim is that by doing these works, one can "earn" his or her way or "claim" the way to heaven. Nothing could be further from the truth. Nothing except the work of the Lord Jesus at the cross is acceptable to God for the total penalty and payment for men’s sins.

"But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God" Hebrews 10:12

"And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven" Colossians 1:20

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

"And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts. Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation." Mark 12:38-40

All of these things from the imagination of the mind of men "are an abomination" to the Lord.

"And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God." Luke 16:15

Can you picture the priest or minister of our day wearing his "long robe?" They love to smile at you. Oh, how many of them love to have the admiration of their fellow man. How many times have we witnessed a powerful entrance as a service begins or a prayer at a funeral is made. (We must wait for the priest or minister).

"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength" Isaiah 40:31

Our readers should know that the marketplaces in the Bible refer to the any place where people gather. The seats refer to those in power to rule over people... similar to a judge in a court of law. Can you see how the ministers of our day are recognized and seated in the "high places" at social events? Think about the papacy.

"Oh how men look to sinful men rather than to the Lord. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else." Isaiah 45:22

Again, we read:

"Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem." 2Chronicles 36:14

As we read these words, we must ask ourselves: How does your church compare in the weight of these words? Are you beginning to see a picture of the church you attend today versus the church that the Lord made? Of course you do?

But not my church!

Yes, your church! You see, today the churches teach it is ok to remarry if you are divorced. They teach you must "accept Christ." They encourage women pastors, gay marriages and they mock the Lords Day-(football anyone?). They teach a false gospel of "signs, wonders, tongues, health and wealth". They have programs attempting to "entertain" to retain their membership. The church music sounds like the music of the world. Their "name it, claim it" gospel encourage you to accept a works - grace gospel. (God did His part, now you must do yours). Some churches make Mary the "co-redeemer" with Christ... and claim the infallibility of the pope—some "pray to saints" This is outright blasphemy. You might ask; So if you go to church who are you worshipping—God or Satan? You must find the answer to this question in the Bible:

"Except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; "Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God." 2Thessalonians 2:3b-4, 9-12

"And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." Revelation 18:4

God is commanding not suggesting that HIS PEOPLE come out of the churches.

As it was in the day’s of Noah...

Some might say that many will be saved. That God is calling everyone and saving everyone that calls on Him. You know

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13

Consider Noah,

"And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark." Genesis 7:23

Consider Lot,

"And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city." Genesis 19:15

Consider the Lord Jesus

"And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them." Mark 6:5

You may be thinking right now, "but that was then, this is now." Do you see a great multitude being saved? No. Only a remnant will be saved.

"Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:" Romans 9:27

And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot’s wife. Luke 17:26:32 Perhaps you may be thinking that you go to church regularly and you are safe from hell; but now you are not sure. The "church" has never been able to save anyone. Jesus indicated that many "churchgoers" would end up in hell:

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." Matthew 7:21

"Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved?" Luke 13:23

What about fellowship? Doesn’t the Bible say something about gathering together in churches until Christ returns? The Bible tells us not to forsake the gathering of "ourselves" together but is does not tell us we must gather in churches. Meeting in homes or through the internet or radio can be a method of fellowship with other believers.

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Hebrews 10:25

"and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ" 1John 1:3

These are not our words. These are the words of the Lord Jesus. You might be asking yourself, what is the point of telling you about this? The point is this: The Lord Jesus will soon return. According to the Bible, this will happen in a few short years. Now you say, how do you know that...

"When you see the abomination of desolation" Mark 24:15

"And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." Luke 21:28

The point is the Lord Jesus said, to Noe, to Lot, the very same thing. (Remember Christ spoke in parables– do you think he could be speaking now?) Some might tell you the world will end with a holy war. Some are looking for the "rapture" to take place. (The rapture will be on the last day....judgment day). The time of the great tribulation is now. It is happening as you read this material. When you see the abomination...flee. Do not look back. Turn to your Bible and the Bible alone as your only source of written truth.

"Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light." Amos 5:18

May the Lord open your heart and your understanding to the time we are living in—the very time of the end. May He grant salvation to those who cry out to Him and wait for Him -

"Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else". Deuteronomy 4:39

"Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee." Acts 8:22

"Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place." Deuteronomy 27:15

"The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight." Proverbs 15:8

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." James 1:27
